Why Give
Many Dominicans and ethnic Haitians in central Dominican Republic lack access to basic medical care. Government clinics in rural areas are understaffed and under-resourced. Many cannot access the government clinics due to lack of documentation. The clinics of Del Rey Medico provide basic primary care and medications to all, regardless of ability to pay. Our staff and visiting missionaries also provide much needed basic health education.

We currently operate on a shoestring budget - less than $3,000 per month to cover payments to staff, clinic overhead, and medications. Both clinics often run out of medications before the end of the month. We would like to increase the amount of money we can send for medications from just over $1,000 per month to at least $2,000 per month. Your donations will help make this a reality.

Del Rey Medico participated in a week of mission work with Del Rey Ministries in February. During this week, we held health education expos in four sugarcane bateys. A mother brought her one-year-old son to one of these expos and spoke with Dr Gavina Quinterio. The boy had a very severe fungal diaper rash. Dr Quinterio gave her an antifungal cream, and told her to follow up in the Consuelo clinic. Two weeks later, a group of students from St Vincent College visited Dr Quinterio’s clinic. The mother brought in her son, whose rash was almost completely healed. The mother is Haitian and has no documentation, so she could not take her son to a government clinic. This mother was so grateful for the free care she received at the clinic. This is just one example of how Del Rey Medico is addressing unmet needs in Dominical Republic.
How do women in developing countries manage their menstrual cycles? They don't have access to disposable menstrual hygiene products, or a means of safely disposing of such items even if available . Reusable menstrual cups are a safe, long-term solution. A donation of $16 buys two menstrual cups.

The Mission

Del Rey Medico is a Christian non-profit organization working to improve the lives of those who live and work in and around the sugarcane fields of central Dominican Republic, by providing medical care, preventive health care, and health-care education.

The Vision

The vision of Del Rey Medico is to establish a system of clinics, with expanded services including basic laboratory and dental, staffed by local providers, providing medical care and education to those who live and work in and around the sugar cane fields of central Dominican Republic.

Join us for a Vision Trip

Del Rey Medico is planning a Vision Trip to Dominican Republic from Jan 17 to 20, 2027. This will not be your typical mission trip. The purpose is to explore the possibility of longer-term engagement with our ministry. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the mission of Del Rey Medico, meet our team in Dominican Republic, and learn about the people we serve. There will be an opportunity to attend a Dominican church, share a cultural experience, observe our medical team at work, and dialogue about the needs and challenges of medical work among the impoverished sugarcane workers in central Dominican Republic.
